But in all seriousness , left click your food icon in village screen to compare the food eaten per day vs the food made per day. Just because you play a card does not mean your going to make food if you eat more than you produce. This can be determined by the total number of villagers you have and the food eaten multiplier applied.
You may have to decrease the multiplier to actually make food.....even with a card in play
