Should Stronghold Ban Overseas Cheaters?

Post by Xunzi »

We all know that many of the overseas players cannot afford to compete with the almighty USD

I even heard Davidspy mention this in one of his wonderful videos

Is it fair to ban the lower socioeconomic class for using the only method they have for leveling the playing field? Should the Rich man always win?

I for one think firefly should reconsider this hateful poor-shaming policy, and embrace that for many players having countless alts is the only way they can compete

Sincerly, yours in thoughtful contemplation

Despite socioeconomics all players must have the rules applied evenly. No player should ever believe they are justified in breaking the rules.

I don't disagree, but I'd love for there to be a way to address the different levels of players ability to be competitive.

I feel bad smashing all the poor people, and once they run out of Rupees they can't keep fighting.

Feels bad man :<

I agree but I'm not sure what the solution is. If FF could cap the amount of cards you used in a day that might even the playing field but we would still have multiaccounters.

I think they should just embrace multiple accounts

It's so pervasive that it just comes down to selective enforcement, someone has to be blatant and retarded to get caught (or post about it on the forums, and you know it was one time in college and I was curious)

I would suggest it's better to modify the game mechanics so the benefits that one derives from having multiple accounts is less harmful.

Accepting multi-accounting as a common practice rewards individuals with an abundance of time. I'm not sure if there is a correlation to socioeconomics, but I know from my personal lifestyle that I only have time for one account because I work 40-50 hours a week. That doesn't include other hobbies. So the edge I get in game is that I'm able to card heavily when needed, but my job supports that.

I'm afraid if multiaccounting is permitted you will have a much larger divide in the community. You will have the richer players who are also in positions where they can game more, paying for crowns on multiple accounts and using them as a network of players. The other end of the spectrum would be the players who do not work and live off a socialistic economy. They have nothing but time, so they too create a network of accounts. That would squeeze out the averagejoe who works, has a relationship and a healthy work-life balance.

This is a not a FREE TO PLAY GAME. I think this is the misconception.

Indeed, the view that this is or should be a free to play game, is a bit of a misnomer

The question to my mind, is how do you create a more healthy competitive environment that encourages players to spend but does not foster a sense of exclusion based on either time or discretionary income level.

Many games and communities I've been involved in have long since accepted that multi-accounting is something that happens and is very hard to effectively police. To the degree that it simply becomes an arms race with the attacker predominantly in the drivers seat.

Now I've become well aware that Firefly likely has no financial motivation to "fix things" and the status quo is tolerable. The players I've interacted with feel very differently, and I wish they would see it's certainly an issue where community outreach and discussion would foster a lot more goodwill.

I think they are very clear in their mission. Firefly like all companies need operating funds. They have it by supporting their customers who by crowns. /Salute

I tend to see the players as an ecosystem.

You have the predators, players with time and money. These players are often dedicated and take gaming to highly competitive level.

Then you have the prey, players who are just here to goof around, never learn the basics, and will forever be food for the predators.

The issue then is you need both to create a healthy game, and in a good proportion. If you only support the predators, the prey moves on to greener pastures (clash of clans, etc...)

The Predators enjoy beating on each other for a period of time, however once a reasonable predator hierarchy has been established they too begin to feel the ennui. leading to the death of the gaming platform.
