While my army was on the march, I completed research into "forced March". They did not speed up. I am guessing that armies speed has been calculated before the march begins. Which is why I have noticed that playing a speed card while an army is marching is also pointless.

Forced March research will only effect armies sent after it completes. Speed cards apply to armies "before" being sent. Increases in Foraging is different and if it completes before your scout reaches the stash it will show the increased level.
