Adding a screenshot to your post

Post by Merepatra » Thu Nov 04, 2010 11:08 am

Sometimes when making a post in this forum you may wish to attach a screenshot showing what is happening in your game to explain it. Below are the steps of how you can do that.

With the game open and showing what you want a screenshot of click on the Print Screen (PrtScn) key on your keyboard.

Open a graphics program, for example Paint which comes standard with Windows.

Using Paint as the example, select Edit and then Paste and the screenshot will appear in the program.

At this point you can use the tools in Paint to do things like cut out just the part of the screen you wish to show or use to circle something in particular if you want to do that. Only showing the relevant part of the screen is preferable if possible as it helps to keep the file size down.

Now select File and then Save As, give the screenshot a name and save it as filetype JPEG in a spot where you can find it again. Do not save it as a bitmap which is the Paint default as that is too large a format to upload to this forum.

If its not an attachment to a bug report we ask that you upload the screenshot to a site which hosts images and then link to it in your post. For bug reports only you can click on the Upload Attachment at the bottom of the posting screen and browse to find the screenshot on your computer then select Add the File. The screenshot will now show up in your post when you make it.

So, just to clarify, we are allowed to upload images to third-party sites this time around?

Yes, the restriction on uploading images to other sites has been lifted for the beta. We would actually encourage it this time, as the forum has an image upload limit and we would like to keep it for bugs that really need an image to make them clear where players don't have easy access to somewhere else to upload them.

It would be a problem on your end but it is likely something you are doing wrong. After pressing the print screen button go open up paint and press "ctrl+V" this should paste the last screen shot in.

If you are using Windows 7 and the PrtScrn key doesn't work, try using the snipping tool (Start > All Programs > Accessories > Snipping tool). Pretty easy to get used to.

I believe this one should be added to the list as well, as it is the easiest for this operating system (no pasting in paint required - it automatically saves the screens). If anyone has Vista, they should tell us if it has this tool as well.

You should post a thread about this in the Class A bugs, where the devs can notice it and come back at you. Probably no one knows the solution in this thread, as this is related to posting screenshots, not bugs.
