Can't complete Quests

Today is my 2nd day in the game. I can't mark some of my quests as completed. All I see is the red X for abandon. Suggestions?

Quests mark themselves as "completed" once they are carried out successfully....you have to finish the quest in the allotted time, if there is one, before you can "collect" the reward.

I finally figured it out. What wasn't clear to me is you can only do 1 quest at a time. One you must make that quest active and complete it before you move to another quest.
