Do the archers on towers have a defense/range bonus?(forgeting the bonus from defenses research)

Yes they have a defense bonus and I believe from what I've been told and experience, an even better one in the middle of the tower. For instance put 9 archers in the great tower instead of 25.

Yes, I do that to, also put them in the center of your castle because they have the same range of fire but the archers attacking can't shoot them cause they are to far away.
