do you have a liege lord? if so it was their army.

I had a similar experience but I am pretty sure it was not a LL. There was an army marching out of my village headed to a wolf den at the ~speed of the tutorial army (very fast, maybe ~x6 through ~x10 speed with full forced march) and it suddenly disappeared about 3/4 the way there. It was red as if some other player's or AI's army. Odd.
